CLEVELAND STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Cleveland, Tennessee

SUBJECT:    Distance Learning

Distance learning is defined as the educational process whereby instruction is delivered to students who are physically remote from the campus or point of program origin.  This form of instruction enables the college to provide an alternate form of instruction to area residents whose work schedules or other personal commitments would not permit their regular attendance in traditional classes.  This form of instruction is supported by technological means, such as telephone, radio, television, computer and/or satellite delivery.

Each course offered via the distance-learning mode will carry the same code, title and credit as traditional courses.  Students will be afforded the opportunity to evaluate the course’s organization, content and delivery through procedures equivalent to those used for traditional on-campus courses.

Students wishing to enroll in these courses must meet the college’s institutional admission criteria and any special admission guidelines of programs of which these courses may be a part.

The course organization as detailed in the course syllabus must allow for interaction between the student and the faculty member teaching the course.  This interaction may be accomplished in a variety of ways, such as initial class orientation meetings, scheduled personal or group conferences, frequent e-mails, telephone contact, etc.  The faculty members will maintain office hours designated specifically for these students and be available for telephone consultation.

Standards for success or failure and procedures for monitoring and assessing student performance and providing timely student feedback will be as rigorous as those used in traditional courses.

Students enrolled in distance learning courses will have access to all student support services available.
