General Basic
Law Enforcement Course Overview:
The Academy’s
intensive ten-week Basic Law Enforcement Course session consists of instruction
in 14 general instructional areas. These 14 general instructional areas
are broken down into 67 individual topical areas which provides more than 400
hours of instruction. The 43 instructors serving the student are
professionals who are dedicated to deliver the most updated and current
curriculum. Classes are scheduled Monday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and
Tuesday through Friday 6:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Occasional mandatory night
sessions will be scheduled for Thursday evenings and will go until 9:00
p.m. Some classes require activities each night. A required
materials list will be provided upon acceptance. Psychological and
Medical Evaluations are required. Acceptance to this training program is based
upon compliance with all State Laws and Peace Officer Standards and Training
(P.O.S.T.) Commission Guidelines. Full time Law Enforcement Officers are
admitted to the program first, based upon P.O.S.T. mandates regarding law
enforcement officer certification.
Candidates for the Academy are advised to well prepare
themselves physically prior to actual attendance. Physical standards that
must be met for graduation will be provided along with the application.
We provide limited assistance in locating lodging since housing is not provided
by
Successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Course provides eligibility for the student, at the request of his/her employing law enforcement agency, to be certified by POST as a full-time police officer. In addition, CSCC will grant 22 college credits to successful graduates. This is a POST approved course.
