GIG (Gear-Up Interest Group)

Rock the House!

Cleveland State, Bradley County Schools, GEAR UP Tennessee Bradley County Grant and CMT (Country Music Television) have partnered together to offer a pilot program currently geared towards parents of Bradley County GEAR UP students. If a parent agrees to pursue and earn their college degree by the time their child completes high school, their child will become a second-generation college student.

The initial program was unveiled on May 1, at Lake Forest Middle School, with an information session and a concert with, Judah and the Lion, provided by our GIG partner CMT. Those adult students that signed up for the program had an opportunity to go to college at no cost to them through a last dollar scholarship provided by Cleveland State.

As the GIG program develops, it will eventually be offered to all adult students interested in getting their two-year degree, and last dollars will be available for all that qualify.

Cleveland State is the only college in Tennessee that is currently working with CMT in this capacity. CMT is committed to education through it’s empowering education program featuring a website that allows adult students to get inspired, remove the roadblocks, and most importantly, take action.  The CMT website can be viewed at
