2011 Cougar Challenge Results
The Cleveland State Baseball team recently concluded its fall workouts with the Third Annual Cougar Challenge.
The Cougar Challenge is made up of sixteen events over four days.
The events are a combination of speed, strength and agility.
Current members of the baseball team are placed in six person teams, this year there were five teams, Navy, Red, Yellow, Black and Green.
Each person on the team competes in every event throughout the challenge.
Points are awarded individually as well as team points.
At the conclusion of the week awards are given to the team with the most points as well as the position player and pitchers who accumulate the most individual points as well as team points.
The challenge concluded Friday with a quarter mile ten event obstacle course.
This year’s winners were, for position players, Cody Hiefnar redshirt freshman outfielder from Riceville Tennessee, Cody accumulated 381.5 points.
The top pitchers were co-winners Hunter Hammond sophomore from Pleasant View, Tennessee and Freshman Jeb Scoggins from Cleveland. Both had 311.5 points.
In team competition Team Green won with 283 points. The team consisted of, Cody Hiefnar, Damo DeMatteo, Jared Davis, Ross Spurgeon, Hunter Hammond and Devin Fish.
The Cougars open up the 2012 spring season on February 4th traveling to West Georgia Tech in Norcross Georgia for a 1:00 double header.
