Former and Current Cougars Selected in MLB First Year Player Draft
Former Cougar Stephen Pryor and Current Cougar Ryan Casteel were selected on Tuesday May 8, 2010 in the MLB First Year Player Draft. Pryor was a junior at Tennessee Tech and had an outstanding junior season escalating him to the fifth round, selected by the Seattle Mariners, and saw his velocity sit at 94-98. Pryor has signed a professional contract and is beginning his professional career in Everett, Washington. Current Cougar and local product Ryan Casteel was selected in the 17th round by the Colorado Rockies. Casteel batted .353 with 14 homeruns, 13 doubles, and 58 RBI during his freshman season. Casteel had one year of eligibility left at Cleveland State and will be sorely missed. The Cleveland State Athletic Department wishes both of these young men the best of luck and success in their professional careers.
