For the second time in his Cleveland State career, starting pitcher Travis Tingle has been selected as the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII pitcher of the week in the for the week of February 21-27. Tyler Burstrom of Chattanooga State was also named as co-pitcher of the week along with Tingle.
The 6'5 righthander from Louisville Kentucky's Butler Traditional High School, was a key cog in the success of the Cougars last year as a freshman and has picked right up where he left off this season. Tingle got the Cougars conference schedule off to a great start with a huge performance in the conference opener last Saturday in the first game of the doubleheader as he went the distance in a 3-0 Cleveland State win against the Southwest Tennessee Saluqis tossing seven shutout innings and scattering only five hits while striking out seven Saluqis and walking none.
"Travis dominated the game from start to finish," explained Cougar pitching coach Aaron Bryant. "He established the strike zone early and really didn't need his secondary pitches at all. The key is that he threw strikes consistently and didn't walk anybody and that is what he needs to do to be successful."
Tingle's 0.90 ERA has helped to propel the Cougars this season who have won nine in a row, are 9-3 overall and more importantly, 2-0 in conference play after the twinbill sweep of Southwest last weekend.
