Softball Signees 2010-11
Sarah Goza (C): Sarah comes a very discipline & strong program from Walker Valley HS (TN). She hit .320 her junior year with 25 RBI’s, 6 doubles & 4 homeruns. “Sarah is a great student-athlete. She works hard in both areas and it is paying off for her. She displays great leadership on the field and does whatever is needed to help her team succeed”, Coach Bayne states.
Casey Griffin (SS): 
Casey will be joining us from Northwest Whitfield HS (GA) where she helped lead her team to a 3rd place finish at the state championships. Casey hit .270 on the year with 26 RBI’s during her senior year. Coach Bayne states: “Casey is a very smooth & solid shortstop that should fight for time right away. She leads by example on and off the field”.
Meghan Smith (P): 
Meghan is coming by way of Mt. Pleasant (TN). Meghan hit .295 as a hitter and had a 2.45 ERA over her freshmen-junior years. “Meghan as a desire to get better & grow as a pitcher which is very exciting. We look for her to work really hard when she arrives and hope to see her pitch a lot for us in the spring”, Bayne states.
Miranda Hurst (P/3B):
Coming from Heritage High School (TN), Miranda will be joining the Lady Cougar pitching staff. She brings a .320 batting average to the plate also. “Miranda is the type of pitcher a coach would like to have on staff. She is willing to work hard and contribute 100% to her team.”
Abby Johnson (OF/C):
Having played about every position at East Ridge High School (TN), Abby will see time in the outfield and behind the plate. Offensively, Abby has great power and patience that will contribute to the heart of the lineup with a .386 batting average. “We are confident that Abby will be able to step in and help us offensively. She will also add depth to the defense.”
Kelsey Wilcox (OF/3B):
As a team captain at Polk County High School (TN), Kelsey will bring a consistent glove to the diamond and a steady bat to the lineup. Kelsey has a .250 batting average with 2 doubles and a home run. “Kelsey is very coachable and eager to grow. If she works hard, she could fight for time in both the infield and outfield.”
Kenzie Fish (IF):
Kenzie will be joining the Lady Cougar Softball team from Lebanon High School (TN). Her senior year as a Blue Devil, Kenzie batted .357 and played in the infield. She has the versatility to play any position on the field and will be called upon for just that. “Kenzie has both a consistent glove and bat that will contribute to our program. She is a team player both on and off the field. We look forward to what Kenzie will add to the lineup.”
Ashlen Mitchell (C/IF):
Ashlen Mitchell, a Red Bank (TN) graduate, will be looked upon to play more than one position at Cleveland State. She was voted Best All-Around by her high school team by having a .434 batting average her senior year. “Ashlen is a great find for our program. She is fundamentally sound at the plate and I look forward to her hard-work and contribution at the next level.”
Morgan Hatmaker (2B)
Coming from Anderson County High School (TN), Morgan is a game time player and a dependable infielder for the Lady Mavericks. “Morgan is very athletic and will be pushed to reach her true potential. She is capable of doing well for Cleveland State and I look forward to seeing Morgan succeed.”
Kaitlyn Sowder (C/UT)
Kaitlyn helped Chattanooga Central (TN) reach the TSSAA State Tournament semifinals where they placed 4th. The Lady Pounders finished the year 29-12 and Kaitlyn handled most of the catching duties. “Kaitlyn had a successful senior season with Central. She is a very coachable lady and does well on and off the field. I am excited to see perform and succeed at the next level.”
Jessica Lingnau (Utility):
Jess will be joining us from Lebanon High School (TN) along with teammate Kenzie Fish. Jess batted .467 her senior year where she was named to the All-District Team and Player of the Year honors from her coaches. “Jessica is a talented player that will see time in the outfield. She has a solid bat and great speed what will make her a threat at the plate.”
