General Requirements
Applicant must be a resident of Tennessee, high school or GED graduate, and admitted to Cleveland State Community College in a degree or certificate program. Meeting minimum criteria does not guarantee a scholarship award. Other considerations include: content of statement of circumstances, financial need, availability of scholarship funds, compliance with deadlines and other requirements specified by donors of certain scholarships..
Priority Deadlines
Applications with a copy of high school or college transcript(s) and
ACT or GED scores must be returned to the Foundation Office located in the A. Ray Coleman Community Services Building, Room 101 at Cleveland State by May 15.
Eligibility
1. The following minimum criteria are required:
A. 2.5 grade point average (GPA) or a GED of 500
B. ACT score of 19 required for students under 21 years of age.
2. Preferences or restrictions are listed by the name of the scholarship in this document. Documentation is required for restricted scholarships.
3. The Foundation does not provide scholarship assistance to a student who has already earned a college degree from an accredited institution.
4. Only complete applications will be considered.
Continuing Eligibility
1. Recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5
at Cleveland State. Cumulative grade point averages are based on
all classes.
2. One may re-apply for a Foundation Scholarship when the cumulative grade point average returns to the minimum required level.
3. Incomplete grades which cause the grade point average to fall below required levels must be made up the first ten days of the following semester in order to stay in the Foundation program without interruption. The scholarship award will not be credited to the student’s account until the grade is posted; other arrangements must be made with the business office to cover tuition and fee payments.
4. A student is eligible for a Foundation scholarship for a maximum of 74 hours. (All hours attempted, including other schools, are counted.)
Load Requirements
1. Recipient must be enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours throughout the semester and in a degree or certificate program.
2. Developmental course grades are considered in meeting required cumulative grade point averages and total hours of eligibility.
3. Withdrawal from classes may impact eligibility for the next semester.
4. A Foundation Scholarship recipient may test for proficiency credit for only three hours per semester. |
Scholarship Awards
1. The amount of the awards vary. The scholarship will be awarded in semester installments. The award may be applied toward tuition, fees and/or books. There will be no cash refunds issued.
2. The amount of the award is credited to the student's account after a signed acceptance form and a thank you letter to the scholarship donor(s) are received in the Foundation Office.
3. Foundation scholarships are awarded for fall and spring
semesters only.
Additional Information
1. Applicants must apply for federal financial aid (FAFSA) to be considered for a Foundation Scholarship.
2. The Foundation Scholarship Program gives first priority to students from Cleveland State's primary service area: Bradley, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe and Polk Counties; next consideration is to Hamilton and Rhea counties.
3. In applying for and accepting a scholarship from the Cleveland State Foundation, the scholarship recipient agrees that his/her GPA and other pertinent information may be released to Foundation Trustees, in publicity or correspondence regarding Foundation activities or programming.
4. The Cleveland State Foundation Scholarship Committee is the final authority regarding all scholarship awards. The Scholarship Committee may authorize or withdraw funding for a recipient at any time.
Expectations of Recipient
A Foundation Scholarship Recipient is expected to:
1. Following notification of award, immediately write a thank-you letter to the scholarship donor.
2. Deliver the letter and a stamped, addressed envelope along with the signed acceptance form to the CSCC Foundation Office.
3. Attend the annual Foundation Scholarship Reception.
4. Immediately notify the Foundation Office of any changes in status, class load, change of address or other pertinent matters.
5. A student who completely withdraws is expected to repay the Foundation the amount not reimbursed by the College and may lose eligibility for the following semester.
6. Abide by all Foundation regulations as stated.
