Baseball Signees 2008-2009

Travis Adair

Shortstop

Woodruff, SC

University of Tennessee

Travis came to Cleveland State as a transfer from the University of South Carolina in the Spring of 2007.  After two weeks of play Adair had taken over the starting shortstop role and went on to be an All-TJCCAA member for the 2007 season.  Adair led the team with a .387 batting average.  Adair also led the team in hits (74), and runs (51), and was second on the team in RBI (47) and HR (5).  Going into his sophomore season Travis has established himself as a leader on and off the field and should have great success in his future in the game of baseball.

Drew Flaniken

Right Handed Pitcher

Germantown, TN

University of Tennessee-Martin

Drew was used as a bullpen stopper in his freshman season.  Flaniken posted a 2-1 record with a save and a 6.64 ERA.  Flaniken had two starts and 11 strikeouts in 20.1 innings pitched. Going into his sophomore season Flaniken will again compete for innings out of the bullpen and an occasional spot start.  Drew has an outstanding work ethic which will push him through to the next level.

Will Davis

First Base

Adairsville, GA

Shorter College

Will has been a two year starter at First Base.  Will has outstanding defensive skills with great glove and foot work.  Will is batting .327 with 36 hits, 7 2B, 3 3B, and 4 HR to go along with 33 RBI.  Davis will be a huge part of our success this season and Shorter College is getting a steal of a player.

Zach Lawson

Right Handed Pitcher

Knoxville, TN

Tennessee Wesleyan College

Zach has been a mainstay out of the bullpen as well as seeing some time as a starter.  Lawson knows his role and plays it to perfection.  Does a great job of killing innings for the other team as well as being a great individual to be around.  Lawson so far has pitched 36.2 innings this season with 16 strikeouts.  Zach will surely be an intergral part of Tennessee Wesleyan's pitching staff the next two years.

Brandon Munsey

Second Base

Knoxville, TN

Tennessee Wesleyan College

Brandon comes to Cleveland State as a transfer from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN.  Munsey has been the starter at second base for the entire season.  Without a doubt the best defensive second basemen in the state and his contributions offensively make our team go.  Munsey is batting a team leading .377 with 43 hits, 9 2B, and 11 stolen bases.  Brandon will be a mainstay in Tennessee Wesleyan's infield for the two years to come.

Travis Borum

Centerfield

Clinton, TN

Limestone College, South Carolina

Travis came to Cleveland State from Knoxville Halls.  Borum was a two year starter for the Cougars at Leftfield his freshman year and centerfield his sophomore year.  Borum was a go get it centerfielder and a clutch performer offensively.  For his sophomre season Borum hit .333 with 67 hits, 44 runs, 29, RBI, 11 2B, 3 3B, and 4 homeruns.  Borum also had 14 stolen bases and was a leader by his performance and we be a great asset to the program at Limestone.

Luke Whittaker

Right Handed Pitcher

Cottontown, TN

Cumberland University

Luke is from Cottontown, TN and White House High School.  Whittaker was a big part of our pitching staff over the last two years.  His freshman season Luke saw time as a midweek starter and weekend reliever.  Whittaker's sophomore season was very productive and he earned a spot as a weekend starter late in the year and in the tournament.  His sophomore season he was 4-3 with a 4.45 ERA in 17 appearances with 8 starts.  Luke had 60.2 innings pitched with 33 runs and 53 strikeouts to only 32 walks.  Whittaker will more than likely fill the same role as he continues his career at Cumberland University.

Ty Nelson

Catcher

Knoxville, TN

University of Tennessee-Martin

Ty hails from Farragut High School in Knoxville, TN.  Ty was a big contributor on Farragut's State Championship Team in 2006.  As a freshman Ty saw limited time, as the number two catcher and was outstanding.  As a sophomore Nelson was the rock of our pitching staff.  Pitchers loved to throw to him and was arguably the best defensive catcher in the state.  Ty was fourth on the team in average at .337 with 55 hits in 51 games with 11 2B, 1 3B, and 3 HR.  Ty will be missed behind the plate and will be a great addition to UT-Martin.
