Striking Out Cancer

The Cleveland State softball team and the Roane State Raiderettes will meet on Saturday at noon at Lady Cougar Field for an important Region VII Conference doubleheader. On the field, the teams will be playing against each other, but in the big picture the young ladies on both sides will be playing on the same team as they combine in the fight against breast cancer with the "Striking Out Cancer" games.
Both teams will be wearing pink uniform tops to help to help raise awareness and in honor of those ladies who have lost the battle with the dreaded disease and those that are still fighting. Coach Suzanne Bayne and her Lady Cougars would like to encourage everyone to come out and support this worthy cause and fill the stands as they try to, "Strike out cancer."
"This is our first year of hosting this game, but last year we played in two games at Truett-McConnell and at Chattanooga State," Bayne explained. "This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart and something that we wanted to get involved with. Also, it is something that I wanted the girls to get involved with and kind of give back to the community."
"Both teams will be wearing the pink shirts for the games," the coach continued. "A lot of our parents have bought shirts and we want to fill the stands and try to raise some money for this great cause. There will be a bucket at the game for donations and all money raised will be donated to the Mary Ellen Locher Breast Cancer Fund."
