Important Financial Aid Reimbursement Information
Cleveland State Financial Aid reimbursement policies will change beginning this spring semester 2012.
Adding or dropping classes will have a deadline of January 25, 2012.
Below are the steps you must take in order to receive your financial aid:
Step 1: Complete your Title IV Authorization Form by logging into your CougarNet account. Click on the Financial Aid tab, then the big red flag icon. If you want CSCC to use financial aid funds to cover ANY charges, you MUST accept this form. If you do not accept this form, financial aid cannot be used to hold classes, pay fines, purchase books, etc.
Step 2: If you agreed to authorize your funds, an electronic book voucher will be available to you beginning January 3, 2012 through January 24, 2012 in the CSCC bookstore. All Pell and Loan students can purchase books up to a maximum amount of $800, which will then be deducted from your refund amount.
Step 3: You must verify that your mailing address in CougarNet is correct. ALL financial refund checks will be mailed by the Business Office starting January 30th. You will no longer be able to pick the checks up at the Business Office.
What are the benefits of moving to this new way of distributing financial aid?
- Electronic book vouchers will allow students to buy books against their financial aid money prior to the start of classes.
- Students will know exactly how much financial aid they will receive. By waiting until all classes have been added or dropped, financial aid can be adjusted appropriately.
- Eliminates you having to stand in those long lines!

Spring 2012 DEADLINE DATES
Deadline date for all documents is Friday, December 2, 2011. Documents include a valid Student Aid Report from the FAFSA; verification documents, if requested; complete admissions file; and any other document or information requirements requested by the Financial Aid Office. Students may fax required items to 423-614-8711, however, all documents must be submitted at the same time. We do not keep incomplete faxed items. For example, if you fax a 2011-2012 verification worksheet and you do not fax your 2010 income tax transcript, your verification worksheet will be shredded. Due to our new imaging system, all documents must be submitted together and a student ID number MUST be on every page.
Appeal deadline is Wednesday, January 11, 2012.
Census date is Friday, January 25, 2012.
- Census date: CSCC uses a “freeze” date each semester to determine a student’s enrollment status for awarding financial aid. The courses for which you are registered on the freeze date will determine financial aid eligibility.
- This means that if a student adds or drops classes before the freeze date, the amount of financial aid they are eligible for will be affected. If classes are added or dropped after the freeze date, the financial aid will not change if you have attended the class.
- Exceptions to this policy are students receiving Loans, who also must be enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours at the time of loan disbursement, and students who withdraw from and/or stop attending all of their classes or never attended their classes. If a student changes course sections after the freeze date and does not attend the original registered class, financial aid will consider the student as never attended and aid will not be adjusted even if the student attends the “changed section” course.
Lottery Scholarship Deadline Date is Wednesday, February 2, 2012 for Spring and Summer 2012.
FAFSA must be received by this date.
PLEASE NOTE: Although Cleveland State participates in the electronic processing of financial aid applications, we DO NOT encourage students to wait until the last minute to file. Applications received after a priority deadline will be processed only as time allows. Students who have not submitted the appropriate information in a timely manner may be required to pay their fees and then be reimbursed at a later date if they qualify for financial assistance. |
