CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Cleveland State Community College’s Continuing Education Department has added a few summer camps to its summer enrichment line-up. In addition to Beginner, Intermediate and Advance Lego® Robotic Camps, Forensic Science and Culinary Arts Camps in both Main Course Cuisine and Pastry Arts, CSCC has also added a Musical Theater Camp on the main campus and a Scratch Baking Science Camp at the Monroe County Center.

The Musical Theater Camp will be held on July 25-29 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. for children ages 11-16. Participants will experience the performing and technology aspects to the theater from an experiences director who has 30 years of experience in the musical theater field. Students will showcase their abilities in a performance on Friday night after the camp concludes. A production titled “Middle School Madness” will display the skills learned throughout the camp. The cost of this camp is $150.
Some of the learning objectives for the camp include:
● Establish an increased comfort level for the audition process
● Develop confidence when performing in front of a live audience
● Utilize acting and vocal skills
● Create dance routine for musical production
● Manage lights, sound and technical aspects of stage production

The instructor for the camp is Melissa Dasher, a graduate of the Lee University School of Music where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Performance in 1998. Dasher and her husband, Joshua, have been the Worship Leaders at Keith Street Ministries since 2001 where Melissa directs the Sanctuary Choir, two musical ensembles and the Dinner Theater program. Dasher has also participated regularly in the Nashville Music Group’s “Songwriter’s Night.” She has taught private voice for over six years and received her Kindermusik license in 2014.
The “Scratch” Baking Science Camp will be held July 25-27 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. for children ages 11-16. Participants will learn basic baking skills and the science behind the recipes. Students will prepare several recipes that will compose their lunch for the day and develop an understanding of the steps that make the recipe successful. In addition to learning trade secrets and essential baking skills, students will be taught to prepare marinara sauce, sweet and savory turnover fillings, chocolate ganache, sausage gravy and more from a professional scratch baker.

Anissa Shull and her husband, Stuart, are the team behind Tellico Grains Bakery in Tellico Plains. Established in 2003, their bakery has become a destination for foodies from across the country. Anissa will share some of her favorite recipes and hopefully inspire some future bakers. The cost for this camp is $150.
