CLEVELAND, Tenn. – CSCC student Haley Hodgson will make history as the first Student Senate President to serve on the President’s Cabinet. Hodgson was recently asked by CSCC President Dr. Bill Seymour to join his executive team—the first time in the college’s history where a student was chosen for such a prestigious role.
According to Seymour, the President's Cabinet serves several important functions at the college. It is a part of the College's governance structure. The diverse group is responsible for reviewing and yielding decisions and recommendations on policy, programs and guidelines. The Cabinet also serves as an advisory group to the President and serves a very important communication function for the college. In addition, the Cabinet gives focused attention to institutional research as part of the college's responsibilities for assuring sound planning and assessment practices across the institution. The Cabinet also serves as the institution’s Budget Committee.
Dr. Michael Stokes, Vice President for Student Services / Student Senate Advisor, said, “Including our Student Senate President as a standing member of the President's Cabinet at the college is just another action that demonstrates the commitment that we have to keeping students and their success at the forefront of everything we do as an institution. Haley is a great example of the talented students at CSCC, and provides an effective voice for the needs of our students. Her presence will benefit all of us on the Cabinet, and will set a high bar for student participation in decisions around the table.”
“I am excited about being a new addition to the Cabinet,” stated Hodgson. “I think it’s going to help keep Student Senate aware of what is going on around our campus, and it will give us the opportunity to present student issues to a bigger audience. I’m really looking forward to being the voice of students in the discussions that go on in Cabinet meetings.”
