CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Exciting news for Cleveland State grads! Recent graduates from Cleveland State Community College’s fall technical training programs were the first to graduate with a warranty on their degree. Approximately 45 students who graduated from CSCC in the December 2018 commencement fall commencement were affected by this new warranty.

Beginning this semester, the Tennessee Board of Regents System guarantees that graduates who have earned an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree, Diploma or Technical Certificate of credit from their colleges have the competencies needed to perform critical work functions identified in the program of study. If a graduate is not able to perform one or more of the trained competencies, they will retrain the graduate at no cost to the graduate or the graduate’s employer. The warranty is valid for one year from the date of graduation.

“I am proud that Cleveland State as well as TBR are willing to stand behind the quality of our education in this way,” stated Dr. Bill Seymour, Cleveland State President. “This program communicates our confidence that our students completing technical programs have the skills to meet the workforce needs of regional employers.”

Zach Kilby, 2018 graduate of the Law Enforcement Training Academy and recipient of the TBR warranty, stated, “The warranty lets me know that CSCC is confident in what they invest in their training programs to be what employers expect. For me as a student, I can be reassured that if I am lacking in a skill, I am not losing anything by coming back for retraining and revamping what I missed the first time around.”

To initiate a warranty claim, the graduate’s employer must submit a warranty claim form. These request forms are available at tbr.edu/warranty. Once eligibility is verified, a retraining plan is developed with the student, employer and the college. Program Warranty retraining is conducted by the college that issued the original degree, diploma or certificate. For more information on the TBR warranty, visit the TBR website at tbr.edu/warranty.
