CSCC Student Athletes Named to the NJCAA All-American Teams and NJCAA Team Academic Award

CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Not only are the student athletes competitive in their games at Cleveland State Community College, but they’re also dominating in the classrooms. The CSCC athletic department would like to recognize 16 student athletes for being named in the NJCAA All-Academic teams for the 2020-2021 year.

“This is a tremendous recognition for the student athletes at Cleveland State,” stated Mike Policastro, Director of Athletics at CSCC. “As a student athlete they put in many hours in athletics to achieve the honors of the NJCAA All-Academic. This shows their dedication and commitment to their academic goals.”

Athletes recognized for their academic excellence and achievement during the past year must achieve a grade point average of 3.6 or above to be eligible. There are three team criterias. Students on the NJCAA All-Academic first team hold a 4.0 GPA. Students on the NJCAA All-Academic second team hold a 3.8 to 3.99 GPA. Lastly, students on the NJCAA All-Academic third team hold a 3.60 to 3.79 GPA.

All-Academic First Team:

Makala Strickland, Freshman, Women’s Softball 


All- Academic Second Team: 

Tate Daniels, Freshman, Baseball 

Bryce Jenkins, Sophomore, Baseball

Callie Hensley, Freshman, Women’s Softball 

Madison Miner, Freshman, Women’s Softball, Volleyball 

Grace Wiggins, Sophomore, Volleyball


All- Academic Third Team: 

Olivia Harris, Freshman, Women’s Softball 

Kaylee Hughes, Sophomore, Women’s Softball 

Anna Yell, Sophomore, Women’s Softball

Kaitlyn Goodman, Women’s Basketball 

Hannah Collins, Sophomore, Volleyball 

Melvin Tobar Jr., Freshman, Men’s Basketball 

Hannah Thrasher, Freshman, Women’s Softball

Jacob Kiermeyer, Sophomore, Cross Country 

CSCC would also like to recognize the women’s softball team for being named as the NJCAA Academic Team Honors. To be awarded this honor, the entire team must have a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or better. The Cougars earned a 3.35 team grade point average for the year.
