Hugs For Our Soldiers
Date Added: 2009Hugs for Our Soldiers is a volunteer based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been supporting our deployed troops since 2003. Our headquarters are in Vonore, TN. Hugs for Our Soldiers' primary mission is to support our deployed troops in Iraq and Afghanistan by sending care packages, letters and cards. Over these past years, we have sent thousands of care packages, letters and cards to our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait letting them know that those of us back home care about them and appreciate the sacrifices they are making
We have an ongoing Adopt-A-Soldier program which gives individuals or groups the opportunity to care for a soldier on a one-on-one basis. We hold numerous drives throughout the year such as our Girl Scout Cookie Drive, Valentines for Our Soldiers, Patriotic Cards, Christmas for Our Soldiers and more. In 2008, we added a new program called Welcome Our Soldiers Home, which focuses on our single soldiers returning from Iraq or Afghanistan to barracks that are empty of everything. We try to furnish each of these soldiers with a snack bag, the basic hygiene items, and a new towel and washcloth.
There are ways you can help in supporting our troops. It has been said to us time and time again, "I've always wanted to do something for our soldiers, but just didn't know how to go about it. I'm so glad to have learned about the Hugs program!"
