Mission

The Caring Place is an ecumenical Christian, non-profit organization. Its mission is to model the love of Christ by addressing basic spiritual, physical and social needs of the disadvantaged in Bradley County, Tennessee regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, or disability.

What does The Caring Place do?

The Caring Place assists low-income individuals and families by offering food, clothing, counseling, and many other services. One of the goals of The Caring Place is to provide services that would not only give people fish, but teach them to fish. Our first effort in that direction is the establishment of a community garden on East Street, located on property owned by the Cleveland Housing Authority (CHA). The garden is literally in the common backyard of the residents of one of CHA's housing projects.

How is The Caring Place meeting spiritual needs?

  • We have a prayer table staffed by a volunteer. Our volunteer is available for prayer and counsel.
  • Our social worker assesses spiritual needs as she meets with each individual and prays with them at the close of each session.
  • Referrals are made to churches for further spiritual intervention as needed.

What is an on-going need at The Caring Place?

We are always in need of food because we give away an average of 1,000 bags of groceries per month.

What qualities and skills should a volunteer possess?

Compassion and a willingness to help others in need.
