What is HVAC and Refrigeration Technical Certificate?


The HVAC and Refrigeration Technical Certificate offers students an array of courses to develop knowledge and technical skills in the field of HVAC and Refrigeration. Topics of study include refrigeration theory, heating theory, mechanical system applications, installations, safety, tools and instruments, and general maintenance practices of recovery evacuation, repair and commissioning. Additional topics include system load design including efficient and balanced designed for ductwork, ventilation, and filtration. Students will explore advanced control systems for HVAC and other mechanical equipment. Students will also explore how modern systems improve efficiency and reliability.

Program Outcomes

  • Demonstrate proper handling, identification, and application of various refrigerants in a particular system;
  • Demonstrate proper application of electrical theory in commercial and residential air conditioning and refrigerant systems;
  • Demonstrate troubleshooting techniques of mechanical and electrical within air conditioning and refrigerant systems
  • Demonstrate the ability to apply proper load calculations of air conditioning systems in commercial and residential applications;
  • Demonstrate proper pipe fitting applications in LP and natural gas systems.

What Are My Options to Pay for This Degree?

Apply for financial aid at www.FAFSA.gov. A student is encouraged to apply early for financial aid and must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the FAFSA Renewal Application as soon as possible after October 1 to ensure that the Financial Aid Office receives the Institutional Student Information Record and other documents prior to the priority deadline. July 1st is the priority deadline for applying for the fall semester and December 1st for the spring semester.
