What will I learn?

All students who complete a degree designated as a Tennessee Transfer Pathway will

be able to do the following:

  1. Communicate effectively through oral and written modes, using conventions

appropriate to their audience and purpose, including critical listening, reading,

and research skills.

  1. Evaluate the significance of humanity’s cultural heritage and diversity and its

development in a historical and/or global context through critical and analytical

methodologies.

  1. Connect knowledge of social and cultural institutions to issues of personal or

public importance.

  1. Analyze historical and contemporary issues by drawing on historical contexts.
  2. Demonstrate a broad understanding of scientific principles and concepts.
  3. Apply relevant mathematical modeling to a variety of applied or theoretical

problems.

In addition, students who complete the Biology degree will learn specific concepts pertaining to biology, chemistry and mathematics required for successful progression into advanced studies in the area.

What can I do with this degree?

A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Biology provides the training for a number of jobs.  These would include biological or medical research, teaching biology at the college level, and working for state and federal agencies in a variety of roles.

What are my options to pay for this degree?

  • Apply for financial aid at www.FAFSA.gov
  • A student is encouraged to apply early for financial aid. He/she must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the FAFSA Renewal Application as soon as possible after October 1 to ensure that the Financial Aid Office receives the Institutional Student Information Record and other documents prior to the priority deadline. July 1st is the priority deadline for applying for the fall semester and December 1st for the spring semester.

Fall Milestones

  • GEN 1010 can be taken as a two week bootcamp that runs for 3 hours per day for the 10 weekdays prior to the first day of class.
  • CHEM 1110 requires completion of ALL Learning Support requirements. 
    If you have not had high school chemistry or CHEM 1010, you need to enroll in CHEM 1010 before enrolling in CHEM 1110.
  • If you have Writing Learning Support requirements, then you will need to register for ENGL 0900 in addition to ENGL 1010.  If you have Reading Learning Support requirements, then you will need to register for READ 0810 in addition to ENGL 1010.
  • MATH 1910* requires a Math ACT score of 26 or higher.  Otherwise, completion of MATH 1730 or MATH 1710 and MATH 1720 is required. 
  • PSYC 1030 requires completion of Reading and Writing Learning Support requirements.

GRADUATION - Apply to graduate by completing the online Intent to Graduate form. This can be found under the Graduation Tab within the Registration Tools and Forms on Cougarnet.  You will need to schedule to take your exit exam and/or program test at mycs.cc/testing.  These will be taken in the Testing Center.
