CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Cleveland State Community College will be hosting Homeschool Early College Information Sessions on Tuesday, April 18 at the CSCC Athens Center from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Thursday, April 20 in Room 118 of the CSCC Library on the main campus from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
“We are excited to offer two information sessions to homeschool students to showcase this great new and exciting program through CSCC,” stated Suzanne Bayne, Director of Dual Studies and Early College. “So many homeschoolers are already taking dual enrollment, so this is a great way to align their high school curriculum with ours through the pathways which will allow them to receive their high school diploma and associate degree within days of each other.”
During the fall 2016 semester, CSCC implemented the Tennessee Valley Early College (TVEC) with Cleveland High School, a partnership allowing students to pursue an associate degree at the same time they are earning a high school diploma. Although the Cleveland City School System is the only school system currently participating, CSCC is opening up the program to homeschool students. The goal of the TVEC is achieved by engaging students in a rigorous high school curriculum tied to the incentive of earning college credit during their freshman and sophomore years and taking traditional college courses on CSCC’s campus during their junior and senior years.
These information sessions are open to any homeschool student to attend. Academic deans will be available to discuss the academic pathways, and representatives will be on hand to assist students in applying for the program and to answer any questions students may have.
