ATHENS, Tenn. – It’s time to cultivate your future with Cleveland State Community College’s new agriculture programs offered at the CSCC Athens Center! CSCC now offers an Associate of Science in Agriculture or Agribusiness, an Associate of Applied Science in Business with an Agribusiness Concentration and an Agribusiness Certificate.

According to Patty Weaver, Director of the CSCC Off Campus Sites, Cleveland State designed the Agribusiness program after consulting with an advisory group that consisted of various people from the McMinn County agriculture community. This advisory group suggested combining more business coursework with agriculture. “We are very excited about our new agriculture programs,” stated Weaver. “We are one of the few community colleges that offer agribusiness.”

The Associate of Science in Agriculture or Agribusiness is designed for students who want to transfer to a four year college or university. Students are prepared with a fundamental knowledge of the agriculture industry and practical agriculture management in areas of plant science, animal science, economics, agribusiness and technical skills. Students will complete their general education requirements, as well as a strong foundation in the sciences, in preparation for continuing to a four-year university for a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Agribusiness.

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Business, Agribusiness Concentration will allow students to gain a strong, big picture sense of how business works, learn the ins and outs of agriculture practices and discover how the two work together. The A.A.S. degree is not specifically intended for transfer as the A.S. degree is designed, but is an option for a student wishing to enter the workforce in agricultural production, farm management or sales immediately upon completion of the two year degree.

The Agribusiness Certificate is designed to prepare students with a fundamental knowledge of the agriculture industry and practical agriculture management. This certificate is embedded in the A.A.S. Degree in Business, Agribusiness Concentration. For students who wish to continue toward completion of the A.A.S. degree, all courses taken in this certificate will apply.

For more information about the Agriculture programs, contact the Athens Center at (423) 745-8486 or email agribusiness@clevelandstatecc.edu.
