CLEVELAND, Tenn. – When Emmalie Harrison graduated from Meigs County High School, she initially wanted to go to a four-year university, but her parents encouraged her to stay close to home to take advantage of the Tennessee Promise so she chose to attend Cleveland State Community College.
“Now that I’m here, I love it,” stated Harrison. “I don’t think I could have chosen anywhere better to go! I have had a great experience here. Adjusting from high school to college was a big transition, but CSCC is the closest thing to an easy transition because of the small classes. The atmosphere here is so welcoming, and everyone is so friendly.”
Harrison is involved in the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society and the Student Ambassadors on campus. As a CSCC Ambassador, Harrison has assisted the Recruitment Department with recruiting at Polk County, Walker Valley and McMinn County High Schools during her time at the college.
“I love the different interactions with people on campus that I get with the Student Ambassadors,” stated Harrison. “I enjoy telling high school students about my experience and how I have benefited from CSCC when I give tours.”
Out of all of her activities she is involved in at CSCC, her favorite has to be the CSCC Honors program.
“I wasn’t even aware that CSCC had an honors program until one of my instructors told me about it and encouraged me to join…I love Dr. Bryan (Honors Program Director). I love the relationships I have built through the CSCC honors program—the different opportunities I have had and the effect it has had on me.”
Harrison will complete her honors diploma and graduate in May. After CSCC, she plans to continue her education at Middle Tennessee State University to major in Biology.
