Hozouri Gains I.T. Experience Working at CSCC’s CougarTech Repair Center

CLEVELAND, Tenn. A year ago, if you had asked CSCC Computer Information Technology student Nilou Hozouri about CSCC’s CougarTech Repair Center, she would not have known what it was, but now she is gaining significant experience for a future career in I.T by working there. Hozouri plays a key role at the center, assisting with both the accounting side, as well as the repair side.  

The CougarTech Repair Center is located in Room 309 of the Career Education Building on the Cleveland State campus. It is a support center offering free assistance to the local community with a wide range of technical issues including:

• 
  PC Repair
  ● Viral Removal
  ●          Windows OS Issues
  ●          Setting up peripheral devices
  ●          Software and App Problems
  ●          File Management
  ●          Email Support

This center is manned by student interns pursuing degrees in Computer Information Technology at CSCC. This service is completely free, but donations are always appreciated.

Before finding out about the repair center, Hozouri’s family planned a trip to her home country of Iran. She took her computer with her to be fixed because the cost to fix computers there is significantly cheaper.

Hozouri stated, “I had no idea they did it here for free!”

She first found out about the center through Bob Uhl, Associate Professor of Computer Technology. She knew she wanted to do something with I.T. security, so she went to speak with Uhl, who explained the different programs to her.

“I started with very little background in computers, but the more time I spend in the shop, the more I learn and the more I have become interested in computers. The center has given me a lot more experience. I’m more confident that I’m in the right field now.”

Hozouri continued, “Mr. Uhl is a great teacher who really wants his students to learn and succeed. He spends a lot of time in the shop, and if he sees someone who needs help, he is so dedicated to help them, but it is a great feeling when I am able to fix issues by myself…Not a lot of schools have centers like this. It’s definitely a unique experience to work here. I will be able to put this on my resume that I have this experience.”

The CougarTech Repair Center is open on Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., and Friday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. They do not take phones, tablets or any Apple products, only laptops and desktops. For more information on the CougarTech Repair Center, contact (423) 473-2359 or email www.cougartech.org.
