CLEVELAND, TN - Cleveland State Community College recently hosted an On-Site Reaffirmation Committee from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) as part of the college’s bid for reaffirmation. The eight-member team completed the successful on-site visit. At the exit conference, the committee’s oral report gave no recommendations for improvement; the college is awaiting the committee’s final written report.

“This is the best news we could have received from the SACSCOC team,” said Dr. Ray Brooks, Cleveland State Interim President. “The reaffirmation, while still unofficial, confirms our commitment to academic excellence and our unwavering focus on students. I appreciate the hard work of our administrators, faculty, staff and students on this outstanding accomplishment.”

SACSCOC is the body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. The reaffirmation process is conducted every ten years and includes a self-study compliance report, the implementation of a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), as well as the on-site visit. Accreditation ensures Cleveland State is eligible to receive federal and state funding to support student financial aid and to transfer academic credits with other institutions.

Dr. John Squires, CSCC Interim Vice President of Workforce Development, Institutional Research, and Advancement, led the accreditation process at the college. He said, “It has been rewarding to guide the college through the rigorous process of our 10-year reaffirmation with no recommendations. This validates the quality of education available at Cleveland State and the commitment of our faculty and staff to serving our students and communities.”

Administrators expect the reaffirmation of accreditation to be official when the SACSCOC Board of Trustees meet in June 2024.
