CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Cleveland State Community College hosted a dedication to name part of the CSCC loop road by honoring long time employee and friend of the college James (Jim) Cigliano on Wednesday.

Long term CSCC employee, Cigliano, was the third employee hired at the college. He served in many positions in Student Services including Director of Admissions and Records, Athletic Director, Dean of Student Personnel Services, Dean of Student Affairs, and Vice President of Student Services. Cigliano was inducted into the Tennessee Junior & Community College Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2001 and in 2007 he achieved Emeritus Status.

“Nobody has been a better friend or supporter of Cleveland State than Jim Cigliano,” stated Dr. Bill Seymour, CSCC President. “As he tells me, he was one of Dr. Adkisson's first hires.  Wow, did he make a great one. Cleveland State would not be what it is today without the family Mr. Cig built here.”

Right before Cigliano retired from the college in 2005 after almost 40 years of service, Cleveland State honored him by naming a room in the L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium after him. The James M. Cigliano Cougar Room is a place to experience all of the traditions of Cleveland State Athletic history. The multipurpose Cougar Room is used for many activities including, holding a signing day, a meeting, or hosting an event.

“To be honored among so many great people in the room is a great honor to me and I’m glad to be a part of it,” stated Cigliano. “I’ve had one of the best staff in Student Affairs while I was at CSCC. They have proven themselves by the success they’ve achieved and I just love them greatly.”

In addition, an award is named after Cigliano and is given out to a CSCC employee who goes above and beyond each year. The Jim Cigliano Outstanding Service to Students Award is presented to a Cleveland State faculty or staff member who is nominated and voted on by the Student Senate based on the following qualities: Volunteer time to make Cleveland State a better place for students.  Friendly, understanding person who can be depended on and who is always helpful beyond required duties.

Last year, Cigliano’s son, Lee, stepped down as head coach of the Men’s CSCC basketball team after 25 years. His recent accomplishment with CCSC was leading the Cougars to a victory in the TCCAA, NJCAA Region VII Tournament, and playing in the NJCAA National Basketball Championship in 2019.
