TUTORING ON CAMPUS

Students enrolled in courses at Cleveland State Community College (CSCC) are encouraged to take advantage of FREE tutoring available at the main campus in Cleveland and at the Athens Center.  The Tutoring & Learning Center (TLC) on the main campus is located in Room L-209 in the Library, and the TLC serves as the main "hub" for tutoring needs.  Tutoring is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.  No appointment is needed.

ONLINE TUTORING

Is obtaining assistance online more convenient for you?  Cleveland State offers students eight hours of FREE online tutoring each semester with live, one-to-one tutors that are available 24/7!   Select the voice option if you would rather talk than type during the tutoring session.   To access Tutor.com free of charge, follow three simple steps:

  1. Log into myCS Courses.
  2. Select the course in which you need help.
  3. Click the Tutor.com icon on the right.  After clicking it, follow the directions.   If you want to speak with your tutor rather than typing in chat boxes during the tutoring session, don't forget to check the "I want a tutor with voice-chat capabilities" option before clicking to connect.

Notice that Tutor.com offers a "drop-off" essay service.  If you wish to submit a paper for review without having a live, one-to-one tutoring session, you can select "Submit a paper for review," answer a few questions, upload your paper, and receive feedback from a tutor no later than 12 hours after submitting the paper.

Don't forget to take advantage of the large variety of practice quizzes available within Tutor.com.  You will be happy to know that taking quizzes does NOT deduct any time from your Tutor.com account.

Finally, explore the options in "My Account."  Besides clicking there to sign out, you can also access transcripts of your previous tutoring sessions in "My Sessions."  Also, there is a place for you to select your favorite tutors, and you have a "locker" to store documents to which you may need to refer later.

If you have any questions, please call 423-473-2354, or email tlc@clevelandstatecc.edu

NOTE:  Online tutoring for psychology through Tutor.com (which is accessed through myCS Courses) is only available 6:00 pm – 12:00 am.

SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION (SI): Study with a Group!

What is Supplemental Instruction (SI)?  Think study groups!  SI sessions are organized, structured group study sessions that are available for certain courses.  Anyone who is enrolled in an SI-supported course is welcome to be part of the study group at any time during the semester.  How do SI group study sessions benefit students who regularly participate?  Students have the opportunity to study with classmates, organize and compare class notes, prepare more thoroughly for exams, acquire better study skills, and seek guidance from the study group leader - a student who has already successfully completed the course.  Research shows that students who regularly participate in SI study group sessions earn, on average, a half to a whole letter grade higher than students in the course who did not attend sessions.  Use the link to the schedule below to see if SI study group sessions are available for any courses you are taking this semester.
