What will I learn?

All students who complete a degree designated as a Tennessee Transfer Pathway will

be able to do the following:

  1. Communicate effectively through oral and written modes, using conventions

appropriate to their audience and purpose, including critical listening, reading,

and research skills.

  1. Evaluate the significance of humanity’s cultural heritage and diversity and its

development in a historical and/or global context through critical and analytical

methodologies.

  1. Connect knowledge of social and cultural institutions to issues of personal or

public importance.

  1. Analyze historical and contemporary issues by drawing on historical contexts.
  2. Demonstrate a broad understanding of scientific principles and concepts.
  3. Apply relevant mathematical modeling to a variety of applied or theoretical

problems.

In addition, students who complete the Biology degree will learn specific concepts pertaining to biology, chemistry and mathematics required for successful progression into advanced studies in the area.

What can I do with this degree?

A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Biology provides the training for a number of jobs.  These would include biological or medical research, teaching biology at the college level, and working for state and federal agencies in a variety of roles.

What is the cost?

  • State residents: $152 per credit hour
  • Out-of-State residents: $475 per credit hour

What are my options to pay for this degree?

  • Apply for financial aid at www.FAFSA.gov
  • A student is encouraged to apply early for financial aid. He/she must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the FAFSA Renewal Application as soon as possible after October 1 to ensure that the Financial Aid Office receives the Institutional Student Information Record and other documents prior to the priority deadline. July 1st is the priority deadline for applying for the fall semester and December 1st for the spring semester.

Fall Milestones

  • Complete any reading learning support  in order to register for HIST 1110.
  • Complete any reading and/or writing learning support in order to register for PSYC 1030.
  • Complete any required learning support and either high school chemistry or CHEM 1010 in order to register for CHEM 1110.
  • Complete any prerequisite classes in order to register for MATH 1910.  These may include MATH 0130, MATH 1000, MATH 1710 and MATH 1720.
  • Completion of MATH 1910 is required for progression to MATH 1920.  
  • Successful completion of ENGL 1010 required for progression to ENGL 1020. A grade of C or higher is required.
  • Successful completion of CHEM 1110 is required for progression to CHEM 1120.
  • FINANCIAL AID ALERT-If you plan to receive aid, the priority deadline to apply or renew your FAFSA and submit any requested documentation is July 1. Spring Milestones

  • Successful completion of CHEM 1120 is required for progression to CHEM 2010.
  • Successful completion of ENGL 1020 is required for progression to ENGL 2210.
  • Successful completion of learning support required or two years of high school algebra for MATH 1530.  Completion of MATH 1000 fulfills this requirement.
  • Successful completion of learning support reading and/or writing is required in order to register for SPCH 1010
  • FINANCIAL ALERT-Please consult  a financial aid specialist and the business office prior to the start of classes to check on fees/expenses and to ensure that you are in good standing.
