CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Cleveland State Community College will be hosting a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party on Monday, August 21 from 2-4 p.m. in the George L. Mathis Student Center for all faculty, staff and students.

The first 100 participants will be given eclipse viewing glasses, so those who already own a pair are encouraged to bring them. The NASA live stream will be showing in the Student Center during the party. All attendees are asked to wear space theme or CSCC gear, and there will be a costume contest for the person who is the most “spaced-out” of all the participants. There will also be other games to play, as well, including Family Feud - Solar System / Eclipse edition.

“Libraries all over the country are providing informational resources, hosting events, and helping people view the eclipse safely,” stated Jen Marx, Library Public Services Coordinator. “Since Cleveland is in the path of totality, hosting an event was a no-brainer. Dr. Seymour's interest and support have helped us turn our little event into something really fun and memorable.”

Marx continued, “Being in the path of totality for a solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we want those who attend to be able to remember it, not only because they witnessed an awe-inspiring scientific phenomenon, but also because they had so much fun with their community!”

Since Cleveland and Bradley County Schools will be closed on this day, CSCC faculty, staff and students are encouraged to bring their children to join in on the festivities.
