Admission Requirements – Day and Evening Sequences

Eligibilty Criteria

• Be accepted for admission to Cleveland State Community College. Please apply for the semester in which you will be starting classes.
• Complete high school or college chemistry with a grade of C or better.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 in the completed prerequisite courses. GPA is calculated:
  At application: Calculated using prerequisites completed so far.
  Before program start: Calculated across all final, required prerequisites.
• Earn a grade of C or higher in all required prerequisite courses.
  If you are currently retaking a prerequisite class after previously earning a D, F, or W, you are still welcome to apply.
  You may be granted conditional acceptance as long as you meet the admissions requirements and offically pass the class with a “C” or better before the Nursing program starts.
• Two unsuccessful attempts of any science courses (grades of D, F, or W) within a five-year period make students ineligible to apply. Successfully completed science courses are only valid for 5 years prior to the application period. Take the ATI TEAS test, with a minimum score of 58.7%. Test results must be within two years prior to application.

Application Process

Complete the Nursing Program Application online during the following application periods:

• Fall Day Sequence: January 1st – March 1st
• Spring LPN to RN Pathway Squence: August 1st – October 1st
• Spring Evening Sequence (apply every other even year): August 1st – October 1st

Upload the following items:

• Unoffical transcript (high school or college) showing a chemistry grade of a “C” or better.
• Unoffical transcripts from any college attended, including Cleveland State, if applicable.
• A copy of the ATI TEAS Test results.

All required items must be completed in full and uploaded with the application for consideration

Admissions Acceptance Clinical Requirements

• Complete all required health screenings and documentation.
• Complete required criminal background checks, including drug screen.
• Meet all clinical agency health and safety requirements.
• Meet all health, safety, and compliance requirements established by our clinical partners, including completion of required health screenings and vaccination documentation, criminal background checks, and drug screening.

Nursing Progression Standards

Academic Progression

• Earn a grade of C or higher in all nurisng courses.
• Any grade below C may prevent progression in the nursing program.
• Completion of ALL required components is needed for success in the course and progression in the program.

Required Components

Theory (Classroom)

Achieve a minimum theory grade average of 77%.

Clinical (Off-Campus or Virtual)

Clinical experiences include all learning activities in which students apply nursing knowledge and skills in practice settings. Each student is required to achieve a passing clinical evaluation minimum score of 77% and an overall clinical grade of 77% or better in order to pass the clinical component of the course.

• Clinical experiences may occure in on-campus skills laboratories & simulation lab environments, or off-campus settings under facilty supervision.
• Students must maintain compliance with all clinical agencies’ health, safety, onboarding, credentialing, and regulatory requirements.
• Failure to maintain required certifications or clinical compliance requirements will result in ineligibility to participate in clinical experiences and may affect progression in the Nursing Program.

Skills Laboratory (On-Campus or Virtual)

• Successfully complete all required skill competency evaluations and skills lab assignments.
• Up to three attempts are permitted per skill competency.
• Remediation is required before a 2nd and 3rd attempt.
• Failure on the third attempt results in failure of the course

Simulation (On-Campus or Virtual)

• Participation in and successfull completion of all simulation activities is requires for progression as simulation time is clinical time.

ATI

• All ATI Content Mastery Series Exams and the Comprehensive Predictor Assessments are course requirements, and their related remediation must be completed as scheduled on the course calendar. Failure to submit required documentation for remediation will result in a grade of “F” in the course.

Service Learning

Successfully complete all required service learning hours and associated reflection papers in the following courses:

NRSG 1710 – 7 hours

NRSG 1620 – 6 hours

NRSG 2630 – 6 hours

NRSG 1320 – 3 hours

NSRG 1330 – 3 hours

NRSG 1340 – 3 hours

Course Repitition

• Students who are unsuccessful in two nurisng courses (grades of D, F, or W), whether during the same sememster or across multiple semesters, will be dismissed from the nursing program.
• Upon dismissal from or withdrawal from the Nursing Program, the student must meet with the Director of Nursing for an exit advisement session. Failure to complete this advisement may result in the student being ineligible for readmission to the Nursing Program.
• Appeals pertaining to course grade follow Final Grade Appeal Process in the Cleveland State Community College catalog.

Nursing Readmission Standards

Students seeking readmission into the nursing program must meet the readmission criteria as indicated below. The following students must reapply to the nursing program and meet with the Director of Nursing:

• Students who have been dismissed from the program
• Students who have not taken any NRSG courses for longer than one year.

Students unable to progress academically in the Nursing Program can be readmitted only once.

Readmission applicants:

• Must reapply to the Nursing program the semester preceding the one in which readmission is desired.
• Will be considered only once for readmission within one year following unsuccessful academic progression in the Nursing program.
• Readmission to the Nursing program is dependent upon successful completion of the readmission application criteria. 
• The total number of accepted applicants will be on a space-available basis each semester.
• Will begin their 2nd admission to the nursing program in NRSG 1710.

Readmission Criteria

These criteria are in conjuction with the readmission policy. For consideration for readmission into the nursing program, the student will need to have the items below completed by a set deadline(s).

• Exit Interview – An exit interview conducted by the Director of Nursing should be on file for the semester the student withdrew or failed. The Admissions Committee will review this exit interview in consideration for readmission to the program. Failure to complete the exit interview will result in being ineligible for readmission. 
• Application for Readmission – The student will recieve a copy of the readmission application and will need to complete and submit the form. This application will need to be returned to the Nursing Office during the appropriate application period before the student is given directions on remaing requirements.
• Clinical Requirements – All clinical requirements should be submitted by the set deadline.
• Supporting Letter – A typed letter explaining in detail what the student plans on doing differently upon being readmitted to the nursing program must be submitted. This letter should include how the student plans on acheiving successful completion of the nursing program.
