Cleveland State Community College welcomes Eugene Noble as the new Executive Director for Institutional Research and Effectiveness. Noble was the Assistant Director for the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga Office of Planning, Evaluation and Institutional Research before coming to Cleveland State.

Noble grew up in a military family with both of his parents serving in the United States Air Force. He was born on American soil in Panama and has lived in Texas, North Carolina, Florida, New Mexico and Ohio.

Noble earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Shawnee State University in Ohio and a master’s degree in psychology with a concentration of applied statistics and research methods from Columbia University Teachers College in New York.

Before relocating to Tennessee to be closer to his family, Noble worked for five years at Springfield Technical Community College in Massachusetts, starting as a senior analyst and eventually advancing to Director of Institutional Research. He also worked as a research analyst with a financial services firm in Connecticut for two years prior to his transition into higher education.

Dr. Andy White, Cleveland State President, said, “We are excited to welcome Eugene Noble as our new Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness. With his experience in data analysis and research, Eugene will play a vital role in advancing our mission to serve students and strengthen our community.”

The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness is responsible for all state and regulatory reporting as well as survey analysis and projects that require data analysis.

Noble was drawn to the social sciences as well as statistics while he was in school. He said, “I don’t think many people realize that psychology goes hand in hand with research. Psychology is an applied field. Unless you plan on going into clinical psychology, you are going to need a statistical and research background. Analytical research can apply in many fields – marketing, education, finance.”

He continued, “I look forward to working with our team and applying data analysis in ways that will inform policy and strengthen the college’s mission of serving both our students and our community.”
