CLEVELAND, TN - Since 2017, Cleveland State Community College has provided testing for Career Technical Education (CTE) teachers to renew their CTE teaching certifications. The National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) assessments are designed to evaluate an individual teacher’s knowledge of higher-level concepts and theories in areas that relate to their CTE field.

The Workforce Development Advanced Manufacturing Assessment Center is one of only five NOCTI Area Test Centers in Tennessee. The Assessment Center assists an average of 25 teachers each year by providing the NOCTI assessments in fields such as welding, electrical construction, carpentry, and advertising and design.

Bre LaMountain has been the Workforce Development Testing Coordinator for ten years. She was invited to the Tennessee Department of Education Institute for CTE Educators Conference in July to present information on “Endorsing High Quality CTE Teachers through the NOCTI Certification.”

“Teachers can take the NOCTI assessment that relates to their CTE field to maintain their certifications. Every test is reviewed by subject matter experts from industry, and every test is piloted before it is used for testing. The service is both affordable and valid,” stated LaMountain.
